Holiday Ride: Day 8 Merimbula-Home

Oh no! It’s our last day of holidays today and time to head home. But not before having a lovely home cooked breakfast with a lovely view!

Packed up and ready to go, this time I put the camera round my neck so I can take pics along the way. Sunshine and lollipops today folks 🙂

There’s a few cars on the road today, which I hadn’t expected. It’s such a nice morning for a ride though!

We just meander round the coast road taking a few pics along the way

…..how lovely and blue is the sky. You take a deep breath and smell the sea air, the freshness…it’s great!

Until just out of Bermagui we are stopped in traffic before the bridge. There was a ute on the other side which had caught fire and had some gas bottle on the back which were exploding. Guess we’ll just stop here a little while. The SES were there and the guys with the ute were down and back to the water with buckets to douse the fire. The fire went out and heaps of smoke was in the air.

May as well take pics while wondering around

The traffic on the north side started coming through so when they cleared Karl and I headed north (only for me to cop a mouth full of abuse from some dude on the bridge). Apparently it was ok for the north to cross but not us..whatever.

Back to it and in and out of small towns, speed zones changing and the traffic getting heavier. There’s no stopping today, so how when you are going home, you just want to get there and don’t take the time you do on other days. These are on the move pics.

There is a bit of this happening

Karl asked in Batemans Bay had Dudleys reserve light comes on? And did I want to stop for fuel this side or the other of town….. No his light wasn’t on and the otherside of town would be fine. As it turned out just as we cross the bridge out of Batemans Dudleys light started to flash. I thought we’d stop just outta town but no we kept going….Ulladulla is 50 kays, not sure I’ll make that (haven’t pushed his reserve that far before).

Anyway,  stop at Termeil BP (turn off to Bawley Point) where we both fuel up and decide to have lunch (377.2km to that tank with 1.5lt remaining).

It’s really getting warm now and take of the cardi and down a bottle of water.

Ulladulla rolls by and as we pass through Milton I think of a friend of mine who is looking for land down here (hope they find something). Town after town and school zone after school zone and the ever increasing traffic. Nothing much changes, people in cars still drive around with their eyes closed at times (not everyone) and you have to be on your guard. Roadworks from Berry through to Kiama make for slow motoring but when the road eventually opens (maybe not in my lifetime) it will be great.

Straight down the highway and into Sydney traffic. King Georges Road is a nightmare. Blazing heat and bumper to bumper makes for a very long last leg to get home. Karl peeled off at West Ryde to take some back way but I stayed on Lane Cove Rd and hoped it would just keep moving…even if slow.

Anyway for a change I beat Karl home (not that it’s a race) and was glad to get out of my gear.

In the door at 4pm…..home sweet home!!!

Thank you Sweety for a wonderful holiday!! We should do it again.
